This review provides everything you need to know about an AmazingCo Mysytery Picnic, without spoiling any of the mystery!
The Brisbane Travel Guide acknowledges the Wangerriburra people, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which Mount Tamborine is situated. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging, and recognise their continued spiritual and cultural connections to Country. Always was, always will be, Aboriginal land.
Over the weekend, my partner surprised me with a weekend at Mount Tamborine, and one of the activities he organised for us was an Amazing Co Mysytey Picnic. I did one of these years ago in Brisbane, but this was the first time in Mount Tamborine, so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to let you know what to expect on one of these Mystery Picnics.
We were paying customers for the AmazingCo Mystery Picnic, so you can rest assured that our review is 100% unbiased.

What’s a mystery picnic?
The concept is simple, you receive a series of clues that lead you to different local producers and scenic spots, where you collect delicious picnic items along the way. It’s a great way to explore the area and discover hidden gems.
The picnic begins with a starting point and an initial clue. From there, you follow the trail, solving riddles that guide you to each next location. Each stop offers something unique, adding to your picnic basket until you have a full spread of local goodies.
The good news is you don’t have to be awesome at solving puzzles. In fact, if you want to skip this part, then you can just go straight to the details of the stops.
If you do want to solve the clues as you go (we solved them all over breakfast before we left) then do bring a pen and paper with you to help work out the various puzzles.
The Stops?
Now, I won’t spoil the surprises for you – so I’m not going to name the various stops along the way or tell you what the clues are, but I will let you know a little about what we received at each stop.
Stop 1: Coffee
Our first stop was a lovely little cafe where we had a coffee tasting platter – I’d never heard of this before.
As I’m not a coffee drinker, I bought (had to pay extra) a cup of tea while my partner tried all the coffees.
This stop also provided us with a couple of cold drinks to take with us and enjoy later with our picnic.
Keep in mind I believe the coffee tasting is part of the premium package and not the standard package.
Stop 2: Wine
For those who included a bottle of wine with their package, you’ll be off to a local winery, as we were to grab your bottle of wine.
Before we chose our wine, we got to enjoy some wine tasting (I believe part of the premium package).
Stop 3: Main Picnic Supplies
The next stop was a little local cafe, where we picked up a large box of goodies, which made up the bulk of our picnic.
In this pack, we had vegetables, fruits, dips, cheese and a few sweets.
Stop 4: Cheese, Dip & Crackers
One of my favourite stops, I think, was a little boutique along Gallery Walk. There, we got to choose a cheese, a dip, and a box of crackers. These were all delicious!
Stop 5: Something Sweet
Also, along Gallery Walk, we stopped for a few sweets to enjoy after our picnic. For this stop, we were given $10, and then we could buy whatever our hearts desired within this budget.
Final Stop: The Picnic Location
One of the highlights is the final picnic spot, a beautiful location with stunning views. It’s the perfect place to relax, enjoy your collected treats, and soak in Mount Tamborine’s natural beauty.
As we were staying in a gorgeous bed and breakfast in Tamborine with an incredible deck with gorgeous views, we decided to take all our goodies back there to enjoy.
However, the location AmazingCo recommends is gorgeous and perfect for those not staying in Tamborine.
Just be sure to bring a picnic blanket, plates, cutlery and glasses etc with you as they’re not supplied.
Are Dietary Requirements Catered For?
The good thing about these Mystery Picnics is that you can request a vegan, vegetarian, or gluten-free picnic at no extra cost. You can also let them know of any food allergies, and they will ensure your needs are accommodated.
I’d recommend making a note if you don’t like coffee too. I’m not a coffee drinker and as our first stop included a coffee tasting board – this wasn’t ideal for me. They wouldn’t let me change it to a cup of tea either, so I had to pay extra for a cup of tea.
How long does a Mystery Picnic take?
It is recommended that you allow 3 hours for your Mystery Picnic. This includes the time needed to solve the clues, get around to all the shops, and enjoy your picnic. Of course, how long it actually takes will be different for everyone.
For us – it was pretty much spot on 3 hours – so this seems a good amount of time to allow.
Where else can you do a Mystery Picnic?
In South East Queensland, you can do an AmazingCo Mystery Picnic in a range of places. As I mentioned above, I’ve done one around Brisbane in New Farm Park, which was fantastic! It took us to some lovely little food places, and we had a fantastic bunch of goodies to eat for our picnic in New Farm Park.
Other places you can do a Mystery Picnic include Paddinging, Southbank, Surfers Paradise, Burleigh and Noosa. While some of these Mystery Picnics are walkable, others require a car so you can drive between the different stores.
While we did the couple’s mystery picnic on both occasions, you can also do friends’ and family’s mystery picnics. Couple Mystery Picnics cost $150 per couple, family picnics are $190, and the friend’s picnic is $75 per person.
You can upgrade your picnic, too. We upgraded to the premium picnic, which was $220, and added a bottle of wine, which was an additional $40. While the wine was absolutely worth it, I have no idea what we got extra for a huge additional $70. To be honest, I thought this was far too expensive for what we got.
It has me a little concerned about what you would have got, if you just paid the basic $150 rate??
Our Verdict
If you love the idea of combining a bit of adventure with good food and beautiful scenery, then the AmazingCo mystery picnic in Mount Tamborine is definitely worth trying. It’s a great way to spend a day exploring and enjoying the best that the region has to offer.
We absolutely loved our day and enjoyed going to all the little places around Tamborine, places we probably would never have gone on our own.
However, as I mentioned above, I think we paid far too much for the experience. For $260, honestly, I’d expect way more than what we got for our money.
But for a special occasion – on this occasion it was my birthday – it certainly is a lovely way to spend a few hours with a loved one.
