History of Howard Smith Wharves

Originally constructed in the 1930s, the Howard Smith Wharves were a part of Brisbane’s bustling port facilities. Named after the shipping company Howard Smith Co. Ltd, the wharves played a crucial role in Brisbane’s maritime history.

After decades of neglect, the Brisbane City Council embarked on a major restoration project, transforming the derelict wharves into a modern precinct while preserving their historical significance. The revitalisation project was completed in 2018, breathing new life into the area.

These days, you’d barely recognise the old port, as it is today a cool, hip place to hang out with your mates or family on the weekend, an ultra-trendy spot for a work meeting during the week, or even a romantic spot to take that someone special in the evening.
