Review: Meriton Suites Adelaide Street

The Queensland Travel Guide acknowledges the Turrbal and Yuggera people, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which the Meriton Suites Adelaide Street Hotel is located. We pay our respects to their Elders, past, present and emerging, and recognise their continued spiritual and cultural connections to the Country.  Always was, always will be, Aboriginal land.

Planning a city stay with room to breathe? Meriton Suites Adelaide Street is an apartment-style hotel in Brisbane’s CBD, a short walk from the river, Howard Smith Wharves and Fortitude Valley.

With self-contained studios and multi-bedroom suites (think full kitchens and internal laundry), plus an indoor pool, spa/sauna and a small gym, it’s a practical base for couples, families and small groups who want more space than a standard hotel room.

We’re reviewing this property with Brisbane’s Riverfire in mind. Its location makes it easy to reach popular vantage points and riverside dining, and selected higher-floor suites offer incredible city and Story Bridge views – perfect for watching the fireworks.

In this guide, we’ll cover how to choose a room for the best chance of a view, plus advice on the essentials: room types and layouts, facilities, parking and location.

As always, our focus is on practical details so you can decide if Meriton Suites Adelaide Street suits your style, your itinerary, and your budget.

Meriton Suites Adelaide Street, Brisbane Review

Below, we cover everything you need to know about staying at the Meriton Suites Adelaide Street Hotel, including its location, room types, facilities, and more.

Location

Meriton Suites Adelaide Street sits at 485 Adelaide Street in the northern end of Brisbane’s CBD, right by the Story Bridge and within easy reach of Fortitude Valley, Chinatown, Queen Street Mall and the river paths.

Getting around on foot and by public transport is simple:

  • Central Train Station is roughly a 10-minute walk, while Fortitude Valley Station is about 12 minutes.
  • Ferries: Howard Smith Wharves ferry terminal is 750m away via Boundary Street/riverwalk, or closer still is the Riverside terminal on Eagle Street, just 650 metres away. Both are on the main CityCat route, making it easy to zip to South Bank and other riverside stops.

Within an easy walk, you’ve got access to:

  • Howard Smith Wharves: just 250 metres away is this iconic riverside dining precinct under the Story Bridge (Felons Brewing Co, Mr Percival’s, Stanley, Ciao Papi).
  • Queen Street Mall: the city’s main shopping strip is a 15 minute walk from the hotel.
  • South Bank: across the river for parklands, galleries and dining. Ride the CityCat from Riverside or Howard Smith Wharves to South Bank/QUT Gardens Point, then wander the river promenade.

In short: you’re positioned for fast transit (rail and ferries), an easy walk to riverside dining at Howard Smith Wharves, and quick access to shopping in the CBD — ideal for a city break or a Riverfire weekend when crowds and road closures make a walk or ferry the smartest move.

Accommodation Options

Meriton Suites Adelaide Street is an all-suite, apartment-style hotel with studios plus 1, 2 and 3-bedroom options.

Room types and sizes

Studio Suite: levels 2-4, 42 m², sleeps 2 – these rooms come with a kitchenette and laundry with a combined living and bedroom area.

1 Bedroom Suite: levels 2-42, 49 m², sleeps 2 – these suites have full kitchens and laundry.

2 Bedroom Suite: standard on levels 6–58, Altitude on levels 63-74 with city outlook, 76 m², two full bathrooms, sleeps 4 – these suites have full kitchens and laundry.

3 Bedroom Suite: levels 64–74, 101 m², sleeps 6; panoramic city outlooks – these suites have full kitchens and laundry.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite and it was huge! There was so much room in these apartments – more then enough room for a group of 4.

Best for Riverfire views

If in-room viewing is a priority, the Altitude Suites (levels 63+) give you the best chance of elevated city and Story Bridge outlooks. Views depend on orientation and weather, but booking an Altitude category secures a high floor.

We stayed in room 6702 on the 67th floor and could see the entire city! We were basically level with the planes, which made for incredible viewing.

Who is the Meriton Suites Adelaide Street Hotel for?

Couples who want space, not just a bed

Apartment-style layouts (with kitchen and laundry) make short city breaks more comfortable than a standard hotel room. Handy if you’re planning a night out at Howard Smith Wharves or Riverfire and prefer a proper lounge to come home to.

Families and multi-generational stays

Separate bedrooms, full kitchens and internal laundries take the stress out of travelling with kids or grandparents. Lifts and step-free access to suites suit prams and luggage, and the indoor pool is a crowd-pleaser on downtime days.

Friends and small groups

Two- and three-bedroom suites let everyone share one base and split costs. If you’re in town for Riverfire or a concert, consider the high-floor Altitude options for the best chance of city/Story Bridge outlooks.

Business travellers and work-from-anywhere types

Fast, unlimited Wi-Fi and living/dining areas that double as a workspace make it easy to plug in between meetings. Central Station, the Valley, Eagle Street and the CBD are all within walking distance.

Long stays and self-caterers

If you’re in Brisbane for a week or more, the full-size fridge, cooktop/oven and washer/dryer beat living out of a minibar and laundrette runs. Supermarkets at MacArthur Central and on Adelaide Street are an easy walk.

Event-goers (especially Riverfire)

The location is ideal for walking to vantage points around Howard Smith Wharves, City Reach Boardwalk and the Valley.

Staying in? A high-floor, river-facing suite gives you a realistic chance of an in-room view (angle and weather permitting).

Honestly this is the place to be for Riverfire – we will 100% be staying here again.

Who it’s less suited to

Travellers chasing a full-service luxury hotel with multiple on-site restaurants and bars, valet trappings, and late check-outs may prefer a different style of stay.

Likewise, if you want to be right in the middle of South Bank, consider a property on that side of the river.
