Candlelight Concerts in Brisbane’s Iconic Venues

The Brisbane Travel Guide acknowledges the Turrbal and Yuggera people, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which Candlight Concert series are held. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging, and recognise their continued spiritual and cultural connections to Country. Always was, always will be, Aboriginal land.

There’s something undeniably magical about listening to live music by candlelight — and Brisbane’s Candlelight Concert series delivers that enchantment in spades.

Held in some of the city’s most iconic venues, from cathedrals to historic halls, these intimate performances reimagine everything from classical favourites to modern-day pop hits in a setting that’s all about atmosphere.

We recently attended a Brisbane Candlelight Concert to see what all the hype was about — here’s what we discovered.

What are Candlelight Concerts?

Candlelight Concerts are a series of intimate, live music performances set in stunning venues across Brisbane — all lit by the soft, flickering glow of thousands of candles.

Originally launched by Fever, the concept transforms classical and contemporary music into an immersive sensory experience. Whether it’s a string quartet playing Vivaldi’s Four Seasons or a soulful tribute to artists like Adele or Queen, each concert blends beautiful acoustics with a warm, atmospheric setting.

It’s a unique way to experience music — relaxed, elegant, and completely unforgettable.

Each concert goes for 65 minutes.

Candlelight Concert Genres

One of the highlights of the Candlelight Concert series is the diversity of musical styles on offer.

While the series originally gained popularity through classical performances — think Vivaldi, Chopin, and Tchaikovsky — it has since expanded to include a wide range of genres. Audiences can now enjoy everything from jazz and soul to iconic film scores and contemporary pop tributes.

You’ll find concerts dedicated to beloved artists like Taylor Swift, Adele, and Coldplay, as well as themed performances celebrating everything from ballet classics to anime soundtracks.

We attended the Candlelight: A Tribute to Queen and were blown away by how the iconic rock anthems were reimagined through a string quartet. Hearing Bohemian Rhapsody and Somebody to Love in such a refined, candlelit setting was powerful and unexpectedly emotional.

We attended the Queen Tribute concert at this venue, which was truly amazing.

Seating

Seating availability depends on the venue where the concert is held. Generally, four categories (zone A to D) of seating are available; sometimes, there is also a VIP section.

The only real difference between seating is how close you are to the stage. Seating is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis within each category. So it is wise to arrive early – doors typically open 30 minutes before the performance.

VIP seating includes front row seats, priority entry into the venue, and a professional photo.

Unless you’re in the VIP or zone A section, I think you’ll struggle to see the musicians. But if you’re okay with just listening to the music, which is what you’ve come for after all, then it really won’t matter where you sit.

Photography

Out of respect for the musicians and the audience, photos and video can only be taken during the final piece without a flash. Please abide by this request – many didn’t during our session which was really off putting.

There is an option to get a professional photo taken at the venue before or after the concert. You’ll receive an instant Polaroid-style photograph. You can purchase the photo online when booking your tickets or at the event.

Accessibility

If you need assistance during the concert, you can apply for a free pass for your caretaker. To do this, purchase your ticket first, then click here to submit a request.

All venues are wheelchair accessible; see above under “Venue Information” for each location.

Service animals are welcome.
